St. Paul Miki
Our Lady of Grace's Teen Ministry and the Dead Theologian Society.
“Dead to the World, alive in Christ!” is the motto inspired by Romans 6:11.
On Thursday, February 5th 2009, Andres Hernandez and Austin Vargas joined others as full members of The Dead Theologian Society.
St. Paul Miki was born in 1562 at Tsunokuni, Japan and was crucified in 1597 at Nagasaki, Japan.
"Nagasaki, Japan is familiar to Americans as the city on which the second atomic bomb was dropped, killing hundreds of thousands. Three and a half centuries before, twenty-six martyrs of Japan were crucified on a hill, now known as the Holy Mountain, overlooking Nagasaki."
-Excerpted from Saint of the Day, Leonard Foley, O.F.M.
"The story of St Paul Miki inspired me because he died for his beliefs," said Austin Vargas newly initiated member when asked for his thoughts on the evening.
As a new member you receive an olive wood rosary, and a D.T.S. hoodie, which is a sign of the teen culture.
The real prize however is the desire for knowledge and the strengthened faith of these young adults.
